“Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed” NSAB

A native of Queens, New York, Reverend Doctor Dorothea James was raised in Baltimore, MD. After serving several years in the United States Army as an Administrative Sergeant, Dr. James began a life of service to the Lord at the Calvary Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD.

She has served in various capacities both religious and secular as an Account Manager (Third Party Prescription), Administrator (Head Start), Youth Minister, and Director of Christian Education; Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PRP) Coordinator at Helping Hands Health Services, Inc; and Volunteer Chaplin for MedStar Health [Union Memorial and Harbor hospitals]. Dr. James sits on the Executive Committee for Sisters In Ministry [S. I. M.] Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. James currently serves as the Executive Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. James considers herself a Practical Theologian emphasizing reconciling relationships. She is a Motivational Speaker, Nouthetic Counselor, Preacher, Teacher, wife of one husband, Lawrence Timothy James Jr., and mother to one daughter La’Don S. Marie, and two Godsons Asante’ Moore and Sean Thompson.

Dr. James believes we should never stop learning. She has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Washington Bible College, Lanham, MD:  a Master of Religion and Masters of Divinity degrees from Liberty Theological Seminary. Lynchburg, VA.; and Doctorate in Ministry from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.  She is the author of All the King’s Horses and All the King’s Men: Reconciling Relationships Through Spiritual Disciplines; and writes a daily blog entitled “The Abstract Moment”.

Her scripture of inspiration is “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Her testimony concerning trials that come her way is “It is Well With My Soul”, because failure does not mean finished.

Dr. James’ mission is to restore relationships, therefore her heartfelt desire is to minister to individuals who have not tapped into the freedom and abundant life offered by Jesus Christ. Moving toward the desire of her heart, she has effectively encouraged, exhorted, mentored, and made disciples through workshops, one-on-one counseling sessions, seminars, teaching and preaching opportunities. She has an uncanny ability to make you laugh and feel good about life while inserting the seriousness of the Gospel message.
